The horizontal separator "EXDIRT" works with a principle similar to the separation of microbubbles: The fluid is guided through a zone with a much larger cross section in order to reduce the fluid velocity, there a tubular mesh structure helps cause turbulence that causes heavy materials to move in an indeterminate direction.

Depending on the flow, density and volume, part of these sludges are naturally deposited in the lower part of the housing.
